Frequently Asked Questions

Things You're Wondering Before Your First Dive

Do I need to know how to swim before learning to Scuba dive?

Yes, but not at a competitive level. PADI Open Water certification requires you to swim 200 metres continuously (or 300 metres with mask, snorkel, and fins) and float or tread water for 10 minutes. There's no time limit and no stroke technique required. If you're comfortable in water and can get through that without exhausting yourself, you're ready. If you can't swim confidently but still want to try Scuba diving, you can join a PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) session instead, an instructor-supervised trial dive with no swimming requirement.

Can I try Scuba diving before committing to full certification?

Yes, through a PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) session. DSD is a half-day introductory dive with full instructor supervision, no certification or prior experience needed. If you're comfortable and enjoying it, you can continue straight into your PADI Open Water course from there. DSD itself isn't a certification, so a short theory and skills briefing is required every time you do DSD.

What's included in the PADI diving course with DWM?

Your PADI diving course in Batam covers all e-learning theory, pool sessions, and open water dives required for certification, plus full use of equipment (tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit) and transport for both land and water sessions during training. You'll also receive a PADI e-certification card recognised worldwide. The course fee excludes personal expenses, marine park fees, and any additional training sessions. Travel assistance to and from Batam is available as a separate service.

Can I get PADI certified in Batam outside working hours?

Yes. DWM was built specifically for students balancing a full-time job. Training is available on weekday evenings after work, as well as weekends and public holidays, so your certification schedule fits around your life rather than the other way around. Contact us to arrange a timeline that works for you.

What happens after I get certified, can you help plan a dive trip?

Absolutely. Once you're certified, I can help you plan dive trips to destinations like Bali, the Gili Islands, Komodo, or Raja Ampat, matched to your certification level and experience so far.

Do you teach Scuba diving in English?

Yes. DWM supports Scuba training in English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin, so you can learn in whichever language you're most comfortable with.

Are classes private or in groups?

Classes run in small groups, so every student gets adequate attention, no rushed skill mastery, and every question gets properly addressed. You can also join with friends as a private group or book a one-on-one session. Course pricing varies with group size.

Is learning Scuba diving safe?

Scuba diving carries real risk since conditions, equipment, and physiology all interact underwater, but it's a well-established, heavily regulated sport when taught properly. No dive session can be guaranteed completely risk-free, but sound training, careful dive planning, and proper equipment maintenance are what make it a safe and confidence-building experience.
